Landscape

Landscape demonstrates Mgudlandlu’s assured use of colour and her bold, almost geometric representations of vistas remembered, no doubt, from her early childhood in the Eastern Cape.

The work successfully marries the power and presence of the aloes, rendered in red, white and green in the foreground with the soft, undulating lines of the hills in the background. The work is at once IDEALISTIC and insightfully contemporary in its careful deconstruction of a beloved landscape into clear blocks of colour and space.
